As we approach the start of a new school year, please consider the children who will return to school wake in their worst nightmare. Forceful family separations are the new normal and the results of ICE's on-going mission to target and harass immigrants regardless of criminal history or status.

Meet Tamra and her family. Tamra and her children are one of those families waking up every day in a living nightmare. On June 29th, Tamra’s husband, Israel Velazquez Lara, was detained by ICE after a routine traffic stop with Rogers Police. Tamra did everything right and sought legal residence for her husband. While the I-130 immigration form seeking legal residence was received and processed, Israel was still deported to Mexico. Now, Tamra is navigating this new reality for her and Israel’s children without their father and main bread winner in their life.

With 7 kids at home missing their dad and very little options for maintaining a livable income, Tamra had decided that it would be best for their family to reunite and start a new life in Mexico. Their family's plan is to move down to Mexico by December.

Despite this being the plan, we all know it takes a village to keep these kids cared for until they’re ready to be reunited with their dad. Tamra is doing an amazing job trying to keep it together for her family, but she needs some love and support from her village. Please help us in supporting this family while they navigate their new normal. Tamra and Israel’s kids deserve to start their school year knowing they’re not alone and their community will be here for them. Thank you.
