Aid for Children and Widows of JetSet Victims

My name is Xiomara Del Castillo, and while I live in New Jersey now, I am Dominican — born and raised in the vibrant, resilient city of Santo Domingo. Like many of you, I know what it means to carry the weight of life’s daily struggles while trying to stay afloat in a world that moves faster every day.

But today, I’m reaching out not for myself — I’m reaching out for the families whose lives were shattered by the JetSet tragedy in the Dominican Republic.

Weeks have passed since the news broke… and just like that, it’s no longer on the front page. The headlines have faded, the outrage has quieted, and still — no one has been held responsible. But I can’t stop thinking about the innocent lives left behind.

Children who lost both parents in a single moment. Mothers now widowed, facing a mountain of debt and uncertainty. Families that were already struggling before this nightmare — now left to grieve with no support and no answers.

Many of these were not wealthy people. These were our people — humble, hardworking Dominicans just like many of our own families here and back home.

I plan to travel to the Dominican Republic in the coming weeks to bring what help I can personally — but the truth is, I can’t do it alone.

Mi nombre es Xiomara Del Castillo, vivo en New Jersey, pero soy dominicana de pura cepa — nacida y criada en el corazón de Santo Domingo. Como muchos de ustedes, sé lo difícil que es lidiar con el corre-corre del día a día, los problemas personales y el ritmo tan rápido que lleva la vida hoy en día.

Pero hoy no vengo a hablar de mí. Hoy quiero hablar por esas familias que lo han perdido todo tras la tragedia de JetSet en República Dominicana.

Ya han pasado varias semanas, y como suele pasar, el tema se ha ido enfriando. Ya no está en las noticias, la gente ha seguido con su vida, y nadie ha dado la cara por lo que pasó. Pero yo no puedo dejar de pensar en esas personas, en esos niños huérfanos que se quedaron sin papá ni mamá, en esas mujeres que ahora están viudas y que quizás se vean ahogadas en deudas, sin saber cómo van a mantener a su familia.

Muchos no eran familias ricas. Eran gente humilde, como tú, como yo, como nuestras madres y abuelas. Gente trabajadora que no se merecía algo así.

Tengo planes de viajar a RD en los próximos días y quiero llevar mi ayuda personal, aunque sea un granito de arena. Pero sé que con más manos podemos hacer más. Si tú sientes en tu corazón el deseo de colaborar, cualquier ayuda es bien recibida.

No tiene que ser dinero necesariamente — si quieres donar comida, ropa, agua, medicinas, lo que sea, escríbeme y buscamos la manera de hacerlo llegar.

Esto no se trata de caridad, se trata de solidaridad. Se trata de demostrar que aunque el mundo haya seguido su rumbo, nosotros no hemos olvidado.
