I’m writing this today with a heavy heart and a request to help my amazing team (currently 17 of us) continue their vital work with Eva Casita’s Respite (an entity of Peer Support Space). We provide free, peer-led, mental health support to individuals in crisis, including a safe space for respite care, group sessions, and advocacy programs. This program has been a lifeline for over 150 guests, helping them take a self-driven break from overwhelming mental health struggles. Our mission is to fill the gaps in the mental health system, especially for marginalized communities, and we’re incredibly proud of the difference we’ve made so far.

Our future has become uncertain. On February 6th, we were informed that our pay would be cut in half, along with the implementation of weekly closures. Starting March 15th, 2025, full-time staff will see their hours reduced from 40 to 20 hours per week, with an additional 12-hour reduction on weeks when a closure occurs on a scheduled workday. For many of us, this isn’t just a reduction in pay—it’s a matter of whether we can keep a roof over our heads and make ends meet. Some of my colleagues will experience a severe reduction in their hours, putting them at risk of not being able to provide for their families or pay their rent.

We need your help. I’m working hard to raise funds to help my teammates weather this storm and continue supporting those who rely on us. Our community depends on the work we do, and if we can’t make it to work, they won’t have access to the support they desperately need.

I’m hoping to raise enough funds to provide supplemental support for my team—something to help with the loss of income, until we can find a way to secure the funding we need to keep the program going.
