Help Vicki and Walt Rebuild After Structural Home Damage

Dear friends, neighbors, and kind-hearted strangers,

We are reaching out to ask for your support for Vicki and Walt Eames of Castleton, who are facing an unimaginable crisis. Their home, which they purchased in 2020, has been rendered uninhabitable due to severe and ongoing structural damage caused by ground movement.

The goal is to help them with expenses over the next couple of months which include finding an apartment or new home, moving, and storage costs while they transition out of their home, while they still have mortgage payments, due to the damage.

Vicki and Walt bought their house in 2020 and initially, everything was great. Issues then started to arise in the driveway when large cracks appeared and then continued to worsen. In February 2024, determined to save their home, Vicki and Walt enlisted an engineer and undertook expensive repairs, including installing pylons over 100ft deep to secure the house, rerouting gutters, backfilling, and repaving the driveway. This work came at a staggering cost of $140,000- none of which was covered by insurance.

Despite their efforts, disaster struck again in April/May 2025. The ground and pavement began separating. And on the night of May 9th, the ground sank approximately 4-5 feet in multiple locations, pulling the driveway away from the house and causing catastrophic cracks in the foundation. The damage is so severe that you can now see outside through the garage floor and basement walls. Each day the situation worsens, and upcoming rain threatens even more destruction.

The power and gas have been shut off after National Grid came to look at the damage and the home has been declared uninhabitable. To make matters worse, their insurance company has denied their claim, citing the damage caused by ground movement is not covered. They are now left with the heartbreaking reality of losing their home, which may be condemned or torn down while still owing over $100,000 on the mortgage.

Vicki and Walt are scrambling to move out of their home, find a new place to live, and cover mounting expenses. We are asking for your help to support them during this incredibly difficult time. Any donation- no matter the size- will go directly toward helping Vicki and Walt get back on their feet and begin rebuilding their lives.

Your kindness and generosity mean the world to them. Please consider sharing this with your networks to help spread the word and offer hope to a family in need.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassions and support.
