It's been two months since Beirut was devastated by the explosion, that, combined with the escalating economic crisis and the global pandemic, has left its people reeling.
I have been living in Lebanon since 2015 and Lebanon and its people have welcomed me with open arms, as they have done with so many before me, no matter how difficult their own situation. I would like to share this beautiful second home with you, and try to help the Lebanese rebuild a city and county with your help through this trekking and fundraiser.
Several organizations are working tirelessly on the ground to provide food, shelter and medical care, rebuilding houses, businesses, and lives. To support their initiatives and efforts, I will hike the entire Lebanon Mountain Trail (LMT) to both share the beauty of Lebanon and to raise awareness for the continued support the people need.
The LMT is a long-distance hiking trail in Lebanon. It extends from Andaket in north of Lebanon to Marjayoun in the south along a 470 km (290 mi) path that transects more than 75 towns and villages at altitudes ranging from 570 to 2,011 meters (about 1,870-6,598 feet) above sea level.
All of your donations will go towards three organizations working to help those worst affected by these compounding crises:
- Min Albe - who are working to rebuild and restructure buildings damaged by the blast; https://www.facebook.com/MinAlbi/
- Give me a Paw - who provide food and shelter to pets whose families can no longer take care of them due to the economic situation: https://www.facebook.com/givemeapaww/
- Egna Legna - who support migrant workers who have been let go by their employers (and often kicked out of their houses): https://egnalegna.org/
- Esmé van Eijk
- Angeline Miedema
- Jorn Douwstra
- Tosca Terra
