Ahmann Adoption: Family of Four

Donation protected
Like every married couple, we make plans, set goals, and dream together.  Most of the time, with hard work and persistence, we can shape our life the way we envision or at least get somewhere in the ballpark.  We both attended college and began our teaching careers where we met teaching at the same school.  We were engaged a year after dating and married a year later.  We were both already into our careers working with other peoples’ children and “older” as we met and married.  After we married, we decided to experience different locations for work by moving to Hawaii and then Maine (I know, two totally opposite places!).  Soon after buying our first house together in Maine we planned to begin our family.  The ability to start our family was faced with years, struggles, and specialists.  After four years, two different specialists told us to accept the reality that having a biological child would not be possible.  We began the journey to accept our new reality and seven months later we realized that they were wrong and we were pregnant with our miracle!  The pregnancy was amazing and in May we welcomed our beautiful daughter Ellisyn.  Our life was the absolute best, we were parents to this amazing girl and she filled our lives.  Eighteen months later, we found out that we were pregnant again!  Sadly, upon the first visit to the doctor we learned that the baby’s heartbeat had stopped at 6 weeks.  A crushing blow as we were so excited that our daughter would turn two and have a sibling.  After that loss, we haven’t been blessed with another pregnancy.

Our plans had to be rearranged during that time, including our plan for a family and brothers and sisters for Ellisyn.  But, through the entire time, no matter what the outcome was going to be, the idea of adoption was always in our hearts as it had been during our four years of infertility.  Adoption gave us hope that we could still complete our family.  It is part of our plan, as if it was a predestined path we just didn’t know about.  We moved our family to North Dakota to live closer to Ellisyn’s grandparents as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  After buying our house and knowing that we would be staying in North Dakota, we began our journey into adoption.

Ellisyn, now seven years old, longs for a sibling.  She wants so much to share her life with a brother or sister, she wants someone (besides her parents) to play catch or kick the soccer ball.  So, here we are, ready to adopt the newest member of our family!  We have spent the past two years researching our options, connecting with adoptive families, and completing our home study.  We have shown our profile to birth parents all over the country and we were recently blessed to be selected!  Our family will be growing and Ellisyn will finally have a sibling!  We are beyond blessed that a wonderful 6 year old boy will be joining our family.  We knew instantly when we heard about him that he is meant to be our son.  We are so happy that he is only 17 months younger than Ellisyn so she will have a brother close to her age; a playmate, companion, and best friend.  Ellisyn instantly began making plans, “We will introduce him to all of the family, maybe we can go to Disneyland, we can play soccer together, maybe he will like baseball and we can teach each other, I’ll save my new Lego set to build with him, …”

This will be an adventure for all of us and we are hoping for placement this summer.  We are thrilled with the timing and that we will have the summer together as a family!  We are excited to be expanding our family and for all of you to join us on this journey.  Along with this amazing blessing comes great expenses.  We are fortunate that we have saved for the initial payments that have brought us to this point in the process.  We are applying for grants to assist in the funding as the total will be over $39,000 to bring our son home!  This can seem like a daunting number at times but we have faith that this is our path and this amazing boy is our son.  We thank you so much for your support of our family.
