My little brother and I have recently lost our single mum parent to breast cancer. Prior to her diagnosis and progressing conditions she was our principal carer. We were able to depend on her for help if we needed it. Prior to losing her I was her carer, since both my brother and sister were working full time during this period. Since the loss I have been transitioning from a carer position to the workforce and am currently in a bureaucratic limbo between the end of my carer assistance and the beginning of my looking for work assistance. This has led me to my current situation; I am unable to purchase adequate amounts of nutritious food, what little I have has been from various food banks and charities around the city, the main one being in Annandale. I have been travelling 1 hour and 45 minutes on 3 different buses just to get there, then I do it all over again so I can bring home a backpack and two plastic bags of whatever they can give me to eat. Also, I am currently unable to pay our rent. It is now 6 weeks late and I am starting to worry about the security of the roof over our heads at night and the walls around us that we need to protect us from the coming winter cold. I am also currently unable to provide for the bills some of which have not been paid for in months such as our electricity bill.
Go fund me has suggested that I add in the following information:
We will benefit from any assistance this campaign raises.
Any funds raised will be used to help alleviate the above described deficiencies, temporarily, until I am in a position to transition into the workforce.
My first Centrelink payment will not be until the 18th of May and even then it is such a small amount I still won't be able to afford the arrears I am in at the moment so I will need any assistance you can give as soon as possible :(
Here I will describe what the support will mean to me.
These last couple of months have been extremely rough for us. All of a sudden our life was turned upside when we lost our mother. We are now also trying to cope with the effects of this on our mental health, I regularly feel grief, depression, loneliness and disconnection and always feel that my life has been spiraling out of my control. Even if you can't contribute anything just send me a message and get in touch with me to let me know that I am not alone in this, that would be help enough.
I am asking you all with the utmost humility, please reach out a lending hand to get me through these dark times and pull me back up. Back up to stability and self-sustainability both mental health wise and financially.
I will never forget these times and those that choose to help. I will never forget the kindness and compassion of those who choose to reach out for us. I will be forever in your debt and grateful beyond words.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
