So get this. After a decade of working mostly for the civic sector, saving, investing, and house-searching in Southern Oregon, where Cedar and I will be closer to his dad and fam, I finally found my dream home in Ashland, Oregon! Two structures, ~1.7 acres in the woods right across from a gorgeous lake! This place is super special:

It is a home for community. It is a home of possibility. It's a place I can someday give to my son. And where I can realize a long-held dream of offering affordable housing for survivors, thrivers, and people in recovery who've often been without shelter. In honor of David.

I already have two potential tenants well into recovery who've built effective support systems living communally. One of them is David's friend who's been sober for six years, which he attributes in large part to our friendship.

My Mom and Dad (most epic support team!) came up to see the place and loved it. So on July 10th, the day before my birthday, I made an offer! Then, a dreaded thing happened...

After I had a vision (kid you not) of a couple charging up the mountain to see the place, I hesitantly asked the realtor if there were any other interested buyers...

She said yes. After NINE MONTHS of it being on the market (for a permitting need I’m working with), little ol' me makes a meager offer in hopes to build community there—then BAM—*on the same day of my offer* I'm confronted with the possibility of losing out to a purchase for a vacation home.

But! I offered rentback to the seller, who wants to stay, and my realtor conveyed "The seller wants you to have it because of your care and your vision. Let’s get it for you now at your offer, but WE NEED TO ACT FAST to close ASAP!" The seller agreed!!✨ With $120k down from me, they're seeing my offer through. I'd budgeted with for $100k down + initial costs (thankfully, monthlies are low). Just $20k needed to get to the finish line. This is where you come in!
