Helping Hands for the Homeless
Donation protected
It all started in 2017. I was leaving the American Airlines Arena when I spotted a homeless man. He was in a wheelchair, asking any passerby for spare change, but was sadly not receiving any. I immediately felt a punch in my gut and asked my parents if they had five dollars on them; sadly, they did not. I made it my goal to find this man the next time I went to a concert and give him something to help him eat, at least for the night. Unfortunately, I never saw him again, but that experience truly sparked my passion for helping these unfortunate individuals. I knew that I wanted to leave an impact on the world, specifically by giving homeless individuals something which could make them sleep a little better at night or feel more full when they ate. For two years, I struggled to come up with an idea which combined a few of my strengths: writing, technology and my passion to help those in need. In my school, the sophomore class creates tenth grade projects, which is when students can decide to create a project on any subject they are interested in, and I knew it was the perfect opportunity to finally materialize this idea. After much thought, I decided to create this website not only to raise awareness but also to allow the entire community to unite for a worthy cause. I hope you will join me on this very important mission of helping the homeless! My great-grandfather, Otto Wagenberg, z’’l always taught me to be grateful for all that I have and to give to those less fortunate. What better way to honor his memory than this. Thank you in advance for your participation.
