“Aging out” is the process when youth must leave the foster care system because they never were adopted and are too old to stay. In S-Korea, aging-out happens at 18, when they are still not an adult yet in S-Korea. The youth face serious issues like finding a new home, maintaining a life without a bank account, or not having a phone account. Moreover, they don’t have any resources or a mentor.
 
Recently, Netflix aired a K-drama “Start-up.” One of the characters, Han Ji-Pyeong, left foster care at age 18 with only $2000 to start a new life. Currently in South Korea, depending on the location, one generally receives around $5000. Kim Seonho, the actor, portrayed the orphan as a warm-hearted normal person. The character turned into a respectful adult who mentors young adult and supports the community. In K-drama history, orphans are portrayed negatively, having a crooked heart or as criminals.
 
The Beautiful Foundation in S-Korea has supported and campaigned for 20 years to help youth leave foster care. They thank Kim Seonho’s performance and the people who brought the character to life. We are raising funds to deliver to the foundation on May 8th, 2021 (Mother & Father’s Day in South Korea and also Kim Seonho’s birthday.)  The Beautiful Foundation will use the donations to help those aging-out of foster care including providing education and mentoring programs, supporting daily life, and continuing the campaign to change their image in society.
 
Most of us are moms and fans of Kim Seonho, who has positively influenced people.
We are grateful to support the youth who need extra care before they take flight themselves by delivering funds on the special day for the youth and for the actor.

김선호 배우는 얼마전 종영한 드라마 스타트업에서 한지평이라는 인물로 분해 연기를 펼쳤었죠. 그가 연기한 한지평이라는 인물이 바로 보호종료아동이었습니다.
보호종료아동이란 아동복지법상 만 18세가 되어 법적 보호가 종료됨에 따라 보육시설에서 퇴소해야 하는 청소년을 말합니다.
대한민국 민법상 성인은 만 19세부터입니다.
해마다 사회로 나오는 보호종료아동은 2500 명 안팎으로 집계되는 가운데 이들에게 지원되는 자립 정착금은 500 만원 정도인 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
이에 따라 보호종료아동이 자립하는데 제도적 경제적 제약이 따릅니다.
