Against All Odds

In 2019 we became a licensed foster home. Our goal is to support reunification when applicable. We hope to be an example of God's compassion and grace to everyone involved in the case. Devaney was our first little newborn girl. We picked her up from the hospital at two days old. She was perfect, and we were instantly in love. Dev has a recognizable, undeniable light in her! Her biological mom, Yadira, was unable to care for her at the time, and God chose us to fill that gap. What an honor! Dev stayed with us for 17 sweet months.

Yadira, with her two other kids in tow (then 2 and 5), moved from shelter to shelter, completed her rehab program, and completed mandatory parenting classes. She went to physical therapy every week to rehabilitate her arm from 3 gunshot wounds she endured while seven months pregnant with Dev. She took the trolly to the bus and walked from the bus station to the visitation center (1 hour each way), and never missed a weekly visit. She fought hard to reunify, and on May 10th, 2021, the day after monther's day-Dev went home. I promised this resilient, now sober, single momma that we would continue to be a support to her and her family.

The restoration that God brought to this family through little angel, Dev, was and is nothing short of a miracle. Generational chains of poverty and addiction have been broken.

In February 2021, Yadira was granted a housing voucher from the county for 18 months. That voucher ends in less than 60 days. The wait lists are very long for women's shelters and low-income housing. Yadira will be forced to revert back to shelter hopping with her now 2 1/2, 4, and 7-year-olds.

We are on a mission to cover the cost of rent for Yadira's apartment for the next year! This will help her continue along the positive path she's on. Statistically, less than 2% of people with similar stories make it, and she's doing it. Her girls can stay at the daycare they attend. Her son, Aciel, can stay at his elementary school, where he'll be starting 2nd grade. He learned English at that school last year and now tells me that "he has four best friends"!

I am petitioning for your support in helping to retain the normalcy these kids are now thriving in. I am asking for help in supporting this warrior single mom who is providing for her kids the best way she knows how, in the house she made a home. Against all odds.

"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him and have been called according to his purpose."
Romans 8:28
