Meet Shah's family! Shah and his wife Bibi have 3 sons...Iqbal (12), Sameer (10) and Muzameel (6). This family was on the large cargo plane seen in the news leaving Kabul in August. They left their homeland with only the clothes on their backs that day, leaving behind their home, jobs, school, friends and family...everything they worked for and built together. After a couple of months in Germany and then in Virginia, the family has reached Greensboro, NC where they are hoping to rebuild their lives in our generous community.
Shah is a civil engineer who most recently worked for the American Embassy in Kabul. His English is excellent and he is anxious to find a job as soon as possible. (Any leads are much appreciated!) Bibi loves to sew and is working on learning a new language. Both are ready for the boys to start school! The boys are embracing this new adventure with energy and enthusiasm. They love sports and drawing and have wide, open smiles.
We are a team of friends from the community working alongside the family to find the basics they need to get started in a new country, a huge undertaking! We are working to help them find permanent housing, work, schools, furnishings, household goods and community in Greensboro. African Services Coalition is helping us to get them started. However, they will require a bit more help to get up and running while Saeedi looks for work.
We are reaching out to our friends and neighbors for additional support to bridge that gap. Your donations will help with the basics of rent, utilities, clothing, food and transportation. Every little bit helps!! The family's gratitude is humbling and massively exceeds their requests.
We so appreciate your support and donations as you are able!!! Thank you, thank you friends for helping us to welcome and embrace this brave, energetic and hard-working family through these first, fragile steps towards a new and safer life.
