Adult Nursing in Ghana
Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Paige and as some people know, I am currently studying to be an Adult nurse. During September this year, after I have qualified, I will be travelling to Ghana, Cape Coast for 4 weeks to volunteer as a nurse. I was able to arrange this through Global Medical Projects.
My role will focus on adult/general nursing, where I will be placed at one of the regional hospitals on either the Male or Female wards. Malaria will be by far the most common illness I will see, along with other tropical illness such as Typhoid and Hepatitis.
The rate of HIV and TB infection is also much higher in Ghana than at home. Hospitals in Ghana often have dedicated HIV and TB wards, so I can gain some useful experience.
As Ghana does not have the same levels of sanitation as we are fortunate to have this will be a completely different setting to what I am used to, and will be a fantastic opportunity to help people in need and strengthen my nursing development. This is something that I have always wanted to do. I will have the opportunity to learn new skills that I can bring to the table as a qualified nurse at home and for the rest of my career.
Sadly, opportunities like this do not come free. As a student nurse I already work long hours unpaid and don't have the opportunity to earn a lot of money. I will need to pay for the project which will cover my accommodation and food for 4 weeks. The work is completely voluntary. Therefore I have set up this gofundme page, and I am asking kindly, for any donations that you can give. This would be greatly appreciated. It would mean the absolute world to me if you could donate even the smallest amount to contribute toward this journey for me.
Thank you all so very much!!
