Adoption Quest: Unlocking Forever Family Mode

Hi everyone,

We’re The Berg Family—Dave, Heather, and Gavin, and we’re beyond excited to share that we are wanting to start the process of adopting a teenage boy into our family!

We’ve always believed that family is built on love, not just biology. Over the past year, we’ve felt a growing pull to open our home to this child who needs it most. He and Gavin became best friends at the beginning of the school year. They bonded over their favorite band, Slipknot, in one of their classes. Their bond continues to grow more each time I see them together. They really do treat each other like brothers.

He’s smart, kind, and full of potential—and he’s been through far more than any young person should ever have to experience. He had lost both of his parents before the age of 9. When he was 6, his dad passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind his mom and 4 children. When he was a week shy of turning 10 his mom passed away from a heart attack. He and his siblings were taken in by a family member and moved up here to Minnesota this past August. After hearing just small pieces of his story, he became one of our kids instantly. With the loss of both parents and several moves to different states, what he needs now is stability, support, and a forever family to stand beside him as he moves forward. We’re honored to be that family.

We know this won’t always be an easy road, but it’s one we’re fully committed to walking together. With your help, we can make sure he has everything he needs to feel safe, valued, and truly at home.

While our hearts are fully in it, the reality is that adoption—especially of an older child—comes with a number of expenses, including home studies, legal fees, counseling support, home updates and home furnishings. We’ve been preparing as much as we can, but we also know we can’t do it alone. That’s why we’re reaching out for support. The money raised will go directly to helping purchase things for him, a cell phone, clothing, shoes, outerwear, things for his room-a bed, a dresser, bedding, a night stand, lamps, black out curtain for his window, etc. He'll need toiletries- deodorant, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste, hair brush and products. And whatever else is needed for him to feel at home.
