Some of you already know of the wild ride our family has been on for almost four years now. (5 years for Emmett) Anyone hearing our story for the first time, you are welcome here. For the full story, you will have to wait until the book is finished. In the meantime, here is a little preview of us.
In March of 2020, my sister, Amanda Brackett, was forced to flee for her life and the life of her baby boy, Emmett. After years of hidden abuse at the hands of Emmett’s biological dad, Amanda found the courage to leave to protect her son. Though she had already endured so much, losing our parents in a tragic accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down, Amanda was a fierce protector of her son, and loved like no other.
With the help of Safe Homes Rape Crisis Coalition, and Spartanburg Housing Authority, Amanda and Emmett found safety, stability, and a little bit of healing. Amanda poured every ounce of her being into giving Emmett a home filled with love and faith. Sadly, my sister passed away Dec 27th 2021, leaving Emmett without his Mommy, the person who had fought so hard for him.
My husband, Daniel and I are keeping Amanda’s wishes alive and Emmett safe, loved, and raised in our home with his brothers (cousins), Samuel & Noah. We have been going through the process (4 years) of adopting him to ensure he has the security and stability he deserves, and not able to be abused by his bio dad.
Unfortunately, the legal costs for our adoption are more than we can manage on our own the longer it continues without resolve. Court fees, attorney expenses, and paperwork are overwhelming, but we know this is what Amanda wanted for her little boy. This is what we want for him too.
We are asking for your help. Above anything else, please pray for our family. God has been so faithful and so good to us our whole lives. We know that He won't stop now. He is working even in this crazy season. We are praying big. We have faith that He will do what only He can. If you can contribute in any way, no matter the size, our family would be so grateful. If you can't give, we ask for prayers and that you share this, so others can help.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us in honoring Amanda’s legacy and protecting our (her) boy.
With love and gratitude,
Rebecca & Daniel Geddes
