Adopted Syrian Refugee Family

Donation protected
Our family needs your help.

While we are perfectly blessed and just fine, we feel compelled by our faith and our patriotism to touch humanity.

We’ve  adopted and sponsored a young Syrian refugee family that has recently escaped the town of Daraa, Syria, near the Jordanian border.  The civil war and subsequent fighting altered the course of their lives immeasurably when they had to flee for safety.

They’ve been placed in refugee housing here in San Diego County.  They arrived less than four months ago with little more than each other.  Complicating their progress is their limited understanding of the English language.  They’re hungry to learn and be a part of our national tapestry -- a family of love and strength.

They are beautiful family of eight; (Dad) Samir 44, (Mom) Dalal 38, Hadeel (16) girl, Majed (13) boy, Nawras (11) boy, Mohamad (8) boy, Hamza (5) boy, Gana (10 month old) baby girl.

Their plight began when they left their home on foot, alone, six young kids in tow with a pregnant mother – leaving behind friends, family and everything they knew.  They walked more than 80 miles into the desert to cross over into Jordan to allude capture.  Their temporary respite was a refugee tent camp of thousands where they were subjected to a nearly two-year lottery-system and vetting process, which they say felt never-ending.  They could have been sent to any number of places – by luck or divine right – they made it to Southern California.

We stand with this family, because it’s the right thing to do.  We are committed to helping them assimilate in every way but we don’t feel equipped to go it alone – it does take a village.

Their immediate needs include, fixing a donated vehicle, helping Dad secure a job (he’s a skilled plumber, learning English), education assistance, clothing, rental assistance, and other help to become financially independent.

We’ve set up a Go Fund Me account and hope you’ll be touched by their resolve.

NOTE:  GoFundMe has requested that I notate how the funds will be given to the family.

They do not posses an email and bank account. It's also very difficult to communicate with them as they only speak Syrian Arabic, so each time I attempt a complex translation like this one it requires I secure a native translator.

The non-profit that I'm helping is Syrian Community Network, located at 6444 Cinnabar Way, Carlsbad, CA 92009. The executive director is

The family I'm raising money for is last name of "Zain Alabedeen."

The non-profit has requested that I withdrawal the funds to my account and write them a check directly. I'm happy to do that -- and provide proof of trasnsfer.
