Adaya - Our Little Warrior

On October 7, 2022 our world changed forever - I was diagnosed with an uncommon medical condition call Incompetent Cervix, which despite all the medical efforts, led to premature preterm rupture of membranes (PPROM) at 22 weeks. Thankfully, I could keep our baby girl inside while on strict bedrest in the hospital for 25 more days. On November 14, 2022, our baby girl Adaya made a grand entrance into the world at a gestational age of only 25 weeks and 3 days (out of a 40 week pregnancy). Adaya weighed only 1lb 12 ounces and was 12.9 inches long. The first 10 days of her life were relatively uneventful; she was very close to being taken off the ventilator and moved to a CPAP machine. Unfortunately, on November 25, 2022, she suddenly developed Sepsis, NEC, AKI (acute kidney injury), RDS, and a compressed lung. Since then, she has had a surgical drain placed due to bowel perforation, developed a Grade 3 IVH (brain bleed), had blood draws multiple times a day, several blood/platelet transfusions, and underwent numerous tests daily. The past several weeks have been very stressful for our family. I have not been able to work consistently, let alone focus; the hospital is 45 minutes from our house and I try to be there for her as much as possible because it is crucial to her brain development, healing process, and growth. These unexpected events have caused a substantial financial loss for our family and will only continue as she is expected to remain in the hospital until her due date of February 24, 2023.

It is not like me to ask for help (those who know me will attest to this). Since I did not qualify for any maternity, short term or long-term leave, I am asking for any assistance you may have to offer while we work through the financial loss and as the medical bills mount.
