Hi My name is Rebecca, I am the daughter of Stephen Cowley.

Stephen (my dad) and his Wife Heidi Cowley, their two young girls and my daughter have fallen victims to the sudden rapid flooding in Adavale.

On Thursday 27/03/25, my dad, his family were airlifted from their roof top to safety in Quilpie, some 100kms away.

At the time they were airlifted the water was rapidly rising, majority of the town was already inundated with water. My dads house was one of two of the tallest two story houses in the town. As of today (Friday 28/03/25) they received reports from a local who flew back over the town and reported that the entire town has been lost to the rapid flowing waters. Only the solar panels can be seen above water. This means that the water has risen some 7mts in total.

Not only have they lost their home, they lost all their farm animals, vehicles, business, and live stock.

This water went from small puddles to the following morning at 4am being hip height deep.

This then went from hip height to 6mts high by 1pm the same day.

There was no time to muster live stock to safety (being there was no where safe) nor for anyone to leave as crossings and creaks were already closed off.

This was something no one would have seen coming nor prepare for.

They have been informed that they may not be able to return back to Adavale for at least a month, this does not mean they can completely return home either. They will have safety checks taken out on what is left to see if it is even safe to return to their home.

In the mean time they have been looked after by the Quilpie Shire and given some supplies to get by and a place to keep warm and dry.

I am reaching out to anyone who would be willing to help including myself to help raise funds with the hope that my dad and his family can return to Adavale and rebuild their home and replace items that they have lost.

Myself and my family will be heading out there once all roads are clear and its safe to get to Adavale, to help my dad, wife and children to help clean up and salvage anything we can, deliver materials and supplies for the house, furniture, clothing and food.

All funds will help take the pressure off this already enormous loss.
