What is Ada's List?
We started Ada's List 5 years ago with a few women who wanted to help other women in the tech sector in the UK.
Ada’s List today is a global online community of nearly 7000 women (and those who identify as) in technology. We define ‘technology’ very loosely: digital strategists, scientists, designers, physicists, mathematicians, makers, journalists, developers, service designers, sci-fi authors, tech journalists, rocket scientists, online campaigners - if you identify as female and work in a field related to the internet, then you have a community of women who can help you shine.
Women in technology from around the world can join us here.
What have we done to date?
Our members repeatedly tell us how we are making a difference to them: some would not have started their technology businesses but for the support and advice the community provided, some have successfully changed policies in their companies to make them more female-friendly (and dare we say, better for everyone as a whole), many have found the courage to launch freelance careers, lots have found jobs they love or recruited talented women in tech themselves.
In 2015, we ran a survey in the run-up to the UK General Elections about what women in tech felt about policies regarding technology and education. We have been covered in Fortune Magazine, the London Evening Standard and Tech City News, and have been mentioned in the Telegraph and the Guardian, amongst other publications. The community has worked on documents collating tips and advice for making the sector a better place, such as how to write job descriptions that are friendly to women applicants, and what companies should keep in mind when creating maternity policies.
In 2014, we published our Agenda, a collaborative document worked on with volunteers, to a lot of encouragement from the tech community.
Why we need your support
We are proud of what we have achieved so far, with so little. But if we want to make an even bigger impact, we need your help.
Whether you are an existing member, a future member or a supporter from afar (like the companies, organisations and many men who know us and encourage us every day), help us make the technology industry a better place for everyone.
Ada's List is registered as an LLC with a social mission baked into its principles. This makes us eligible for grants.
The funds from this campaign will help with:
- Platform software costs for our email community
- Running workshops to skill up the tech sector
- Awards submission costs to highlight the work of women in tech
- Ada’s List annual conference
- Website running costs
- Support staff time
Whatever you can contribute will be put to good use increasing diversity and inclusion in tech.
Sincere thanks from Anjali, Merici, Nicki, Rosa and the Ada’s List team!
