Adam is Ms. Gilmer’s oldest son. He’s just 28 years old and has been battling heart failure since age 21, after a virus severely damaged his heart. For years, he managed with medication, but in June, things took a turn for the worse.

He was rushed to the ER, where doctors confirmed he was in complete heart failure. He was transferred to Emory Hospital, where the situation became even more critical.

After arriving, he suffered a heart attack and stroke caused by a severe allergic reaction to a blood thinner. On top of that, doctors discovered a dangerous farm-related virus in his system.

Right now, Adam is in rehab, working hard every day.

The goal is to regain enough strength to be placed on the heart transplant list. He will need a new heart to survive.

This journey has been emotionally and financially overwhelming.
