My mother is not one to ask for help so I feel like I need to step in and help in any way that I can. My grandmother fell and broke her arm on April 2nd and has been hospitalized in Syracuse, NY. She received surgery a few days following the incident and contracted pneumonia directly after surgery. She is currently on a ventilator in the ICU due to a collapsed lung. The doctors are closely monitoring her and have tried to take her off the vent several times with no success. My grandmothers medical bills are thankfully paid for but what is not is my mother’s expenses. Due to my grandmother having dementia, my mother has had to be with her every day to make medical decisions. She was staying in a hotel in the beginning, which became very expensive after spending a few thousand dollars. She is now traveling back and forth from home every day, 3 hours each way. Between gas prices, food and hotel stays when she’s too tired to drive, the past 3 weeks has been very difficult for me to hear my moms spirit break. My mother is a state worker and worked for Gouverneur Correctional Facility for quite some time. She has had to use the majority if not all of her sick time that she planned to pay for her health insurance when she retired in the next few years. She is currently working and traveling back and forth. Waking up early to travel to a rest stop half way, working for a half day remotely from her car and using sick time for the remainder of the day, then traveling from the rest stop to the hospital for the rest of the day. My mom has been my rock and best friend in life and I’m unable to help her due to distance and life in general. Every dollar helps and I appreciate any help anyone can give.
