Essential Aid for Bateyes: Act Now

Hello, my name is Marley and I am a part of Titan Service Scholars, a program that gives students the opportunity to volunteer and learn about the importance of giving back. Right now, we desperately need the help of our communities. Many of us have had the incredible opportunity to volunteer in the bateyes of the Dominican Republic -- small, isolated communities deep within sugarcane fields where families live in extreme poverty.

The people in the bateyes work tirelessly in brutal conditions, earning next to nothing for their labor. Despite their struggles, they welcomed us with open arms, kindness, love, and resilience that we will never forget. And now, they need us more than ever.

Two incredible organizations, Ascala and Actalianza, make it possible to further support these communities. We've helped build homes, install floors, construct latrines, and -- most importantly -- bring resources and hope to the people who need it most. But now, their future is at risk.

Funding has been cut. USAID support is gone. Ascala and Acatlianza are on the brink of collapse.

Without these organizations, the bateyes will lose essential aid -- medications for adults and children, necessary supplies, and the volunteers who bring support. Roberto, the heart and soul of Actalianza, has dedicated his life to helping these communities. But he cannot do it alone.

We cannot let these people be forgotten.

We all owe them more than we realize. The United States is the number one importer of the sugar they cut. Every day, we consume the product of their labor, yet they continue to live in such devastating conditions. If we benefit from their work, it is only right that we stand up for them now -- when they need it most.

Every dollar raised will go directly toward essential supplies -- medication, food, hygiene products, and the support these communities desperately need.

We have seen the impact of this work with our own eyes. We have danced, laughed, hugged, and cried with amazing families and children who deserve more. And now, we are asking you to stand with us and give what you can.
