My name is Sgt John Stancliffe and I am one of the Adult Volunteers at 273 (Wallasey) Sqn RAF Air Cadets.
On 23rd August 2025, I will be walking the full 60km of the Wirral Circular Trail in one day to raise funds for my squadron so we can purchase much needed new kit and equipment. This will allow us to continue providing the amazing opportunities and experiences for our young people we already do, and will also open new doors for them.
The RAF Air Cadets is a volunteer-military youth organisation that offers skills-for-life training and unique experiences for 12-20 year olds, all centered around the theme of aviation. Air Cadets can gain qualifications in first aid, communications, public speaking, and leadership among many others, and they can also take part in the DofE award scheme. Being the AIR Cadets, they can also experience flying and gliding, and can go on to earn full scholarships and private pilots' licences.
273 (Wallasey) Sqn was founded in the late 1930s and became one of the original ATC Sqns in 1941. We currently have 9 Adult Volunteer staff and around 45 Air Cadets, which we have almost completely rebuilt post-lockdown. We aim to keep building our Squadron and in order to do so, need to update our outdated kit and equipment.
We would be greatful if you could donate anything you can towards our Squadron so that we may continue to provide excellent training and offer unique opportunities to our young people.
Thank you
