We are a community of families looking to provide Waldorf education for our children and the community.
In our area there are no alternative schooling solutions apart from the public system. Receiving a legal school status means that we can grow and provide Waldorf education to families instead of being under the umbrella of home schooling (which allows no pedagogical freedom to teach anything but the Portuguese national curriculum)
In order to be able to do that we need to comply with the ministry of education's license requirements. We need the money to be able to complete the following:
- Air conditioning for the heating of the spaces - (3400 euros)
- Double glazed doors and windows for the garage (to be used as the dining hall) - (3200 euros)
- Insulation of the garage
- Disabled toilets
- New boys/girls toilets
- Opening windows and passages inside the building
- A 60m square outdoor covered area
- Gates and fences along the property
- Paving of the parking area and fixing the ramp.
- Fire and personal protection certificate (3000 euros)
- Architect/engineer fees
- License fees
**Please make sure to change the gofundme commition to 0% when making a donation**
Every donation, small or big will help us to get closer to our dream of opening an official Waldorf school in rural Portugal. All this will cost more then 10,000 euros but we thought we start with this to be realistic. Of course if anyone can help with more than this amount that would be most helpful.
Why Waldorf Education Is Especially Important Today
In times dominated by technology and artificial intelligence, the Waldorf approach offers something profoundly human — it reminds us of what cannot be automated or replaced. Children today are growing up in a world of instant access, constant stimulation, and increasing disconnection from the rhythms of nature and community. Waldorf education serves as a counterbalance, nurturing the inner life and emotional intelligence of the child alongside intellectual growth.
By emphasizing emotional and social development, children learn empathy, cooperation, and a deep sense of responsibility toward others — qualities that are essential for meaningful relationships and healthy societies. The Waldorf classroom encourages personal connection — between teacher and child, between students, and between the individual and the natural world — cultivating a sense of belonging and purpose.
Equally vital is the focus on creativity and art, not as extras but as essential modes of learning and expression. In a world increasingly driven by screens and algorithms, the ability to imagine, to create, and to see beauty becomes a source of resilience and innovation.
Through connection with the earth and nature, children experience learning as a living process — one that is grounded, rhythmic, and attuned to the seasons and the cycles of life. They learn to care for the world because they have experienced its wonder firsthand.
Waldorf education therefore prepares children not just to adapt to the future, but to shape it consciously and compassionately — bringing heart, imagination, and integrity into a world that needs those qualities more than ever.
