ACE Program at Café con Leche School in Dominican Republic
Donation protected
We are a group of students and teachers from the ACE Program at Brookline High School (Brookline, MA) offering service to a school in the Café con Leche neighborhood of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. We will teach lessons in mathematics (in Spanish!) to 3rd and 4th graders. We will also help them paint a new mural at their school and will support other classroom teachers throughout the day.
La Escuela Café con Leche was founded by families in the neighborhood because they would otherwise not have had a school at all. It has grown to include 800 students in grades K-8.
It is our hope that our ACE students will be deeply impacted and inspired by the principles on which the Café con Leche school was founded: the “art of loving/culture of giving" and by the initiative taken by these under-resourced families to provide an educational opportunity in their neighborhood.
100% of the students at Cafe con Leche qualify for and receive federally funded free breakfast and lunch at school. 60% of the students we are taking from the ACE Program qualify for free lunch at Brookline High School. This is a beautiful exchange of culture and an opportunity for each group to model things for the other -- true reciprocity, with each student group sharing its strengths. We look forward to sharing our experience with other students and adults upon our return!
We will send you a letter (with our EIN) acknowledging your donation for tax purposes.
