Hello, my name is Bob. I am a 56-year-old male who has been permanently in a wheelchair for the past six years due to an accident. Since my incident, my daily life has become very limited. I am currently only able to spend around six hours out of bed each day.
My mobility options are extremely restricted - I can usually only go to the local shops or stay at home. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a suitable vehicle for my support workers to take me out. Due to my weight (over 250kg), I'm unable to safely travel in standard vehicles such as maxi taxis or buses.
Having access to a modified van would completely change my life. The NDIS has advised that they can assist with the vehicle modifications, including installing a ramp, if we can purchase the van. This would give me the opportunity to participate more actively in the community, visit my family, and enjoy outings that I currently miss out on.
Being able to get a van would mean gaining freedom, independence, and a much better quality of life. It's something I truly hope for, as it would finally allow me to experience the simple things many take for granted.
