Bonjour,

Je m’appelle Alexandra Boutin, j’ai 21 ans et je poursuis actuellement un baccalauréat en travail social. Le 11 mars 2025, j’ai pris contact avec Juma, un jeune homme résidant en Ouganda, en Afrique. Depuis ce jour, nous échangeons presque chaque jour. Il m’a présenté sa cause, Juma Family Foundation, et j’ai rapidement ressenti le désir de m’impliquer dans sa mission : venir en aide à sa communauté, située sur Koome Island, dans le village de Myende.

 

En juillet 2025, j’ai rédigé une lettre de présentation accompagnée de quelques questions, que Juma a fait distribuer à l’école du village. Cette initiative visait à me présenter et de mieux cerner les besoins prioritaires des enfants de sa communauté. Les réponses reçues ont confirmé que l’accès à l’eau potable constituait une des plus grandes urgences et devait devenir notre ligne directrice. Koome Island est entourée du lac Victoria. Malheureusement, celui-ci est fortement pollué et l’eau y est dangereuse à consommer. Nombreux sont ceux qui y puisent tout de même leur eau, au risque de contracter des maladies. Seulement 30 % de la population de l’île a accès à de l’eau potable.

Depuis, j'enteprends avec rigueur différentes démarches auprès de compagnies et de ressources spécialisées locales ce qui a permis de concrétiser la construction d’un puits de forage. Maintenant, plus d'une centaine d'élèves ont accès à de l'eau potable.

 

De plus, les enfants n'ont aucune bâtisse sanitaire à l'école, puisque cette dernière a brisé. Ils se retrouvent donc à déféquer à air ouverte ce qui contamine leur environnement. Ceci constitue notre prochain objectif.

Toute contribution à ce projet, aussi modeste soit-elle, représente un immense pas vers un avenir plus sain pour ces enfants et leur communauté. Pour ma part, en juin 2026 j'irai rencontrer la communauté, distrubuer les dons que j’amasse ici au Québec (vêtements, matériels scolaires, produits sanitaires, etc) et repeindre l’intérieur des murs de leur école pour la rendre plus dynamique et motivante.

NOS OBJECTIFS PRINCIPAUX:

 

1) Construction d'un puit pour de l'eau potable (4000$-ATTEINT)

2) Construction d'une nouvelle bâtisse sanitaire (6600$-PRESQUE ATTEINT)

3) Construction d'un module de jeu (Environ 2000$-3000$) 

4) Peinturer les murs intérieurs de l'école (à déterminer)

Hello,

My name is Alexandra Boutin, I am 21 years old, and I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. On March 11, 2025, I got in touch with Juma, a young man living in Uganda, Africa. Since then, we have been in contact almost every day. He introduced me to his cause, the Juma Family Foundation, and I quickly felt the desire to get involved in his mission: to help his community, located on Koome Island, in the village of Myende.

In July 2025, I wrote an introductory letter along with a few questions, which Juma distributed at the village school. The goal was to introduce myself and better understand the children’s most urgent needs. The responses confirmed that access to clean drinking water was one of the greatest priorities and should become our main focus. Koome Island is surrounded by Lake Victoria; unfortunately, the lake is heavily polluted and its water is unsafe to drink. Many people still rely on it despite the risk of disease. Only 30% of the island’s population has access to safe drinking water.

Since then, I have been actively reaching out to companies and local specialized organizations, which made it possible to complete the construction of a borehole well. Today, more than one hundred students now have access to clean drinking water.

In addition, the children no longer have proper sanitary facilities at their school, as the previous building collapsed. They are therefore forced to relieve themselves outdoors, which contaminates their environment. This is now our next objective.

Any contribution to this project, no matter how small, represents a meaningful step toward a healthier future for these children and their community. In June 2026, I will personally travel to meet the community, distribute the donations collected here in Quebec (clothing, school supplies, hygiene products, etc.), and repaint the interior walls of their school to make it more welcoming, dynamic, and motivating.

OUR MAIN OBJECTIVES:

1. Construction of a clean water well ($4,000 – ACHIEVED)

2. Construction of new sanitary facilities ($5,500)

3. Construction of a playground structure (approximately $2,000–$3,000)

4. Painting the interior walls of the school (cost to be determined)
