Let me introduce the Abu Ras Family,
The family consist of 6 members: Khaled - 57 (father), Shamsa Alkhalawi - 51 (mother), Madyan - 19, Abdelmoaamen - 16, Abdeljawad - 13, and Mohammed -11. One son is still in a refugee camp in Jordan and one son was killed. The father, Khaled, has a heart condition with 2 blocked arteries. We visited the family couple of times and their needs varies from financial aid to counseling how to start a life in USA.
The family’s home was in Hama, the third largest city in Syria, when it came under fire and they had to flee. They camped in the desert for a year and then crossed the border into Jordan. They resided in a refugee camp for about a year and finally moved to San Diego about 6 months ago with UN help.
They reside in a small apartment and depend on meager public and private non-profit resources to create their new life here. , the father, has a severe heart condition with two blocked arteries. He has missed several doctors appointments due to lack of transportation, specifically a car.
Their financial needs are following;
1)Rent Supplement: $3,600 - Though the family gets about $800/month from a non-profit agency (Rescue) they have a short fall of $350/ to cover their rent.
2)Car Purchase: $4,500
3) Household Goods: $900 - Their food stamps do not cover cleaning supplies, such as detergent, soap, shampoo etc.
We would love to raise enough to provide all the above so that they are able to focus on creating a better life for themselves and their children. They have already suffered great loss and atrocities for the last few years and we would love to make a change to their lives that is permanent.
Please find it in your hearts (and wallets!) to donate to our lovely Syrian family who are very much in need of any help you can offer. We would love to help them start this new chapter in their life with all the resources they need and support that we were all once given when we started our lives.

Who are we?
We are Sayed & Yasmeen Ali, local San Diegans! We have adopted a Syrian family through Hearts4Refugees ( www.hearts4refugees.org), a non-profit organization based in San Diego that seeks to ensure the 1000 Syrian refugees who have been resettled here are supported during their transition to new lives in America.
How do we know the Family?
They are our "adopted" family! We met them in March 2017 when we decided we would like to help them financially and emotionally and especially as friends as they navigate their new life in America.
Will the funds be given directly to the family?
No. Hearts4Refugees strongly recommends the funds be used on the family's behalf rather than being delivered directly to the family. For example, it is better to pay rent to the family's landlord than it is to just give cash to the family. This way, volunteers can coordinate to ensure the maximum number of families get what they need. Yasmeen & I will withdraw the funds from Gofundme and deposit them into the Hearts4Refugees account for the purchase of the car and payment of the rent.
