On 17th October, a team from Xeinadin’s Limerick office will be taking on a challenge at Thomond Park — an abseil in support of Cliona’s Foundation.

This cause is particularly close to our hearts. In June 2025, our colleague and friend in the Limerick office sadly lost his beloved niece, who was just three years old, after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of childhood leukaemia.

We wanted to share a few words from her family, who can tell her story and describe the beautiful little girl she was better than anyone:

A message from her family

“In memory of Saoirse ❤️

Saoirse was a beautiful, joyful and fiercely brave little girl who brought an incredible amount of love, laughter and light into the lives of everyone who knew her.

At just 19 months old, Saoirse was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of childhood leukaemia. Her life became one of hospitals, treatment, long journeys and uncertainty, but through it all she remained our funny, cheeky, loving little girl — our warrior princess.

When a child is seriously ill, the costs that come with their illness are often the costs people don’t see. There are endless journeys to hospital, fuel, parking, accommodation, special foods and equipment, as well as the enormous impact that treatment has on ordinary family life.

Cliona’s Foundation supported our family financially at a time when we needed it most. That support helped ease some of the pressure of the hidden costs of Saoirse’s illness and allowed us to focus on what mattered most — being there for Saoirse and giving her everything she needed, while still being able to keep our family going.

For us, Cliona’s support wasn’t simply financial. It gave us breathing space during an incredibly difficult time. It meant that, for a little while, we could worry less about the practical costs and concentrate on being Saoirse’s parents.

Saoirse sadly gained her angel wings on 15 June 2025, aged just three years old.

We will forever be grateful to Cliona’s Foundation for the kindness and practical support they gave our family when we needed it most.

It means so much to us that this abseil is being carried out in Saoirse’s honour. Through her memory, other families caring for seriously sick children can receive the same kindness and support that meant so much to our family.

@SaoirsesSmile

Fly high with Saoirse, our beautiful girl. ❤️”

As a team, we wanted to do something meaningful to show our love and support for our colleague and his family, while raising funds for a charity that provides vital support to families during some of the most difficult and challenging times of their lives.

So, we’re stepping outside our comfort zones and taking on the Thomond Park abseil to raise as much as we can for Cliona’s Foundation.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference and means so much to us. Most importantly, it is a way for us to stand alongside our colleague and his family, honour the memory of his beautiful niece, and help support other families going through incredibly difficult times.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting us. Every donation and share is hugely appreciated.

More information about CLIONA'S FOUNDATION COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE: Cliona's provides financial support nationwide to families of seriously sick children to help with the non medical "hidden costs" of caring for their child & enabling them to be by their bedside. These costs can include but are not limited to accommodation, travel, car parking, food, specialist equipment, childcare etc. It is estimated that it costs an additional 10,000 p.a to care for a sick child and for many of these families one of the parents has to leave work so now operating on a reduced income.
