Why we reach out to you:

Thank you so much for showing up!

We are a group of LGBTQ rights activists and organizations from Lebanon and we are launching a grassroots response to the COVID-19 epidemic in Lebanon.

The LGBTQIA+ community in Lebanon is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.  A rapidly worsening economic recession and the COVID-19 lockdowns have made the lives of LGBTQ impossible as their health and livelihoods are now under the same threat that their rights and bodies always have been. The Lebanese government has long discriminated against us, and have not included any of us in their relief or aid programs and our community now faces malnutrition, homelessness, violence, and mental health issues as a result.

In the past 4 months, the number of LGBTQIA+ people seeking food aid has risen to over 1000. Thousands more have lost their jobs and have begun facing the threat of eviction from their homes due to their inability to pay rent. Many of us with pre-existing conditions cannot leave our homes to find work and many more with chronic illnesses are finding it more difficult to afford life-saving medication and emergency medical response. Already, members of our community are being forced to return to their family homes where they are faced with discrimination and violence – already the calls for local emergency hotlines for depression, suicide, and abuse have increased by 30% in the past 2 months alone.

The LGBTQIA+ community in Lebanon is extremely strong and resilient and has made so much progress for its civil and political rights in the past decade, by fighting laws and advocating reform. All of this progress is at risk of rolling back now that our basic livelihoods are threatened.

We would like to reach out to you to provide a donation for the grassroots LGBTQIA+ response we are launching to fight this virus and safeguard our community. One small donation from you would make a tremendous difference in the lives of LGBTQIA+  people fighting for equality and equity in the difficult times ahead. We are mobilizing a nation-wide response to this crisis to ensure that NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND, no matter how far away or remotely they live.

How your donation will help:

-       A donation of 10 USD would provide enough food to feed a member of the community for a month, so they are not forced to risk leaving their homes.

-       A donation of 50 USD would provide enough food and hygiene products to support a family for a month so

-       A donation of 200 USD would cover the rent of an average of 4 people, so they do not risk homelessness or returning to abusive family households.

-       A donation of 500 USD would allow us to provide all of the above outside urban centers and create distribution channels to queer people living all over Lebanon.

This is an independent response by queer activists and NGOs working on the frontline. None of the people managing this emergency fund (and none of their household members), nor NGO employees will receive any money from this fundraiser. 100% of all proceeds will go towards relief efforts. The organizations and individuals associated with this emergency response will provide a full financial and narrative report to any and all donors once the funds are spent and will share it publicly. Together we will keep you updated about where your money goes and how it is spent, and whose lives you've helped make better.

Since Lebanon is facing extreme capital controls given the ongoing economic and political crisis, the bank account that is associated with this fundraiser will be abroad in order to facilitate the transfer and access to funds for activists on the ground who are barred from accessing financial resources otherwise.

If you have any questions about the campaign or any questions about any of the organizations coordinating this relief effort please contact us here below. We will answer your questions or directly put you in touch with a member of our community.

Thank you so much for your support! Together we can get through this difficult time and continue our fight towards liberation and equality despite the odds!
