Empowering Girls, Shaping Futures
Donation protected
Mfangano Island, situated in Lake Victoria, Homa Bay County harbors vibrant communities where young girls face unique challenges, including the risk of early pregnancies, child marriages, sexual and gender based violence (SGBV), HIV/AIDS and limited access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) education. Abiero Girls’ Empowerment (AGE) recognizes the critical need to provide support and guidance to the adolescent girls of Mfangano Island, to equip them with knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, ultimately steering them away from adolescent pregnancies.
The primary objective of the AGE Holiday Camp 2024, scheduled for December 2024, is to empower girls on Mfangano Island with essential tools to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health (SRHR) while providing a safe and engaging environment during the holiday season. The theme of the camp is Embracing My Voice and Potential.
Beyond SRHR, the camp aims to foster personal growth by building the girls’ self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills. Life skills training, including communication, decision-making, and problem-solving, will prepare participants to become future leaders and agents of positive change within their communities.
