Glen Travis Chambers is my younger brother. Born on September 3rd 1973 to a family of what would become 9 children, Glen arrived early at just 23 weeks gestation and his brain was starved of vital oxygen which in turn, led to him suffering a number of seizures shortly after birth causing an eventual diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Suffering from quadriplegic cerebral palsy but unaffected mentally, Glen had a happy early childhood, playing relatively typically with his siblings and enjoying family holidays to Cornwall and Devon and when Glen turned 11 it was time for him to go to 'high' school and he was accepted into what was known at the time to be a 'ground breaking' boarding school for children suffering physical disabilities. Some years after starting at that school, it was found that there was an abusive group of staff at the school who were sexually, physically and verbally abusing most of the students and Glen being one of the victims, suffered broken bones on several occasions leading to a diagnosis of epilepsy, and a lifetime of mental trauma. Unlike many of his fellow students, Glen is able to speak and despite his own torture, was able to speak out for his friends and dorm mates at the subsequent inquest making him somewhat of a hero amongst his peers and their families. As Glen aged out of the education system, he moved into adapted accommodation around the corner from our parents and with devoted care workers to help him live independently. Around this time, Glen was diagnosed with diabetes adding to his extensive health concerns. We lost our parents in 2019 and 2021 which sent Glen into deep depression but somehow he managed to make us smile every day. Following a recent hospital appointment, it was discovered that Glen was suffering with stage 4 bowel cancer and the prognosis was eventually that Glen's cancer was terminal and he had very short amount of life remaining. This was a huge shock to Glen as, (probably like most of us,) he thought he would live forever and realizing that his life is finite, Glen has drawn up a bucket list. One of the things on it is taking an extended long haul trip where he can escape his situation for a time and make some memories to relive in his dark hours. The time line for this is quite pressing as, right now, Glen is still able to travel although he needs to be horizontal and accompanied by 2 carers. Unfortunately, before too long, travel will not be an option for Glen. We are attempting to raise at least £10,000 to help Glen to achieve his goal and would be grateful for any donation you can manage. We recognise that this is a very tough time financially for most people but even your smallest contribution could make a very big difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
