Help my dad start over
Donation protected
My name is Lia and I am writing this for my dad - on September 26th my dad had a home, a yard, a million manicured plants he tended to, a roof over his head, some friendly neighbors that were his friends, and a calm daily life that made him extremely happy. He packed up a few clothes in preparation to leave Sanibel Island before hurricane Ian was going to make an appearance, locked up the windows and doors, secured the area, and got on the road searching for safety.
On September 28th everything changed. He lost everything. I'm sure you saw the news - Sanibel Island & Fort Myers were hit the hardest and suffered catastrophic damage. What was once his nest egg, a place he poured his love into daily, is now completely destroyed, cherished items and all local history just gone. No one could have possibly prepared for the damage Ian had done, but now that the bridge to Sanibel was also destroyed, there is not even a possibility for my dad to go home and assess the damage. There is still no power on the island and no prediction as to when anyone can get back there safely. His entire retirement just left to ruin, slowly drying out from the storm surge that left everything in that area under water. What was once a tropical paradise where we all sought peace and relaxation is now just a pile of rubble, a graveyard for cherished memories with loved ones.
I am asking for any help that anyone is willing to give at this time to help my dad start over, even the smallest amount would be sooo appreciated. Any money donated will allow him to find a place to stay while he figures out where to move. It can also buy him food to eat and gas to put in his car. He is heartbroken and doesn't have a place to call home anymore, he needs any help he can get with trying to begin again, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any amount you can donate.
