Community service has an immeasurable and lasting impact on a multitude of different things and people. It is something that I am genuinely passionate about and hope to make a big part of my life. Making a positive change in a community and doing things to better the lives of the people living there is something that I have dreamt of my entire life.
Over this coming summer, I hope to begin making this dream come true. I am going on a service trip in Costa Rica through an organization called Global Leadership Adventures. GLA is an organization that specializes in providing educational, safe, and meaningful volunteer programs for high school students all over the world. They are a very well-known organization that is remarkably dedicated towards establishing change in our world. Words can't begin to express how excited I am to become a part of that change.
I will be volunteering this July in Parrita, which is a beautiful beachside village located in Costa Rica. There I will be working to enhance the lives of youth by cleaning up the beaches, playing sports with local children, and helping to renovate schools. Improving the school’s infrastructure by building playgrounds, outdoor basketball courts, and constructing bridges so that students can cross flooded areas to get to school are other components of the full renovation.
I will record some of my experiences in still shots as well as videos using my GoPro and camera to create my senior project. My project will outline this opportunity and showcase the importance of community service in areas of the world that are continuing to develop.
Unfortunately, the cost of my ten day community service trip is not inexpensive. Including airfare, the trip will run about $3,400. I am required to have the full balance in by May 15th. Receiving donations (no matter how big or small) in support of my volunteer work would mean the absolute world to me. Asking for help is not easy, but I truly hope to be successful in reaching my goal. Thank you so much for your consideration in helping me improve the lives of others. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
