Help Grace Help Shelter Animals

If you know 10-year-old Grace, you know that animals are her PASSION. She loves them all and has been known to rescue ladybugs, ants, potato bugs and even the occasional spider if it's not too large and hairy.

For the past two years, Grace has been celebrating her birthday by asking friends and family to donate food, supplies or money to the Gateway Humane Society.

But last year, she went about a hundred steps further and raised almost $1,600 for the animal shelter. She did it by starting her own business, "Grace's Goodies," and baking over 190 dozen homemade dog biscuits and selling them around town and at the Farmer's Market. She also received donations via a GoFundMe page and cans in local businesses around Brockway.

Aside from raising money for the humane society, Grace also raised money to buy rabies gloves for the Jefferson County Humane Officer, helped with a "giving tree" at Tractor Supply, volunteered at the animal shelter, organized a pet food drive at school for the Helping Hands Food Pantry, and helped at "Woofstock" for Willow Run Sanctuary for Animals. She had a busy summer, made a lot of new friends, and had a lot of interesting experiences.

For her efforts, she was named "Western PA Spirit of Kindness Queen." And, while she's very pleased with her sparkly crown and sash, she's usually too busy getting her hands dirty to bother wearing them. :-)

Right now, she's working on a project to buy a pet oxygen mask kit for the Brockway Fire Department.

But summer's here and she's decided she wants to squash last year's goal by raising $2,000 for the Gateway Humane Scoiety. (I remember telling her last year that I thought $1,000 was too high of a goal . . . so this year I'm keeping my mouth shut on that front.)

She'll be baking her homemade dog biscuits soon. She's already got a new product: all-natural flea & tick repellent. She'll be selling it at the Farmer's Market and taking orders online. Look for her cans soon at the local businesses. And, of course, she'll take donations directly through this site.

So, we hope you'll share this page with your animal-loving friends far and wide and help make a young philanthropist's dream come true again this year.

God bless,
Grace's Mom
