Support Arrested Peaceful Protesters for Palestine - Halifax

MUTUAL AID call for legal fees for 19 protesters arrested and criminally charged for demonstrating in the street that connects to the Halifax port where Isr@el’s ZIM Shipping does business. The 19 protesters were the largest group of protesters for Palestine in Canada to be arrested on April 15th.

The full amount of legal fees is still to be determined as discussions with legal representation are on-going. This mutual aid call-out will be carried out in installments with updates provided as more information is gathered. **Any unused funds will be donated to local Palestinian mutual aid fundraisers**

On April 15th, 2024, Kjipuktuk-Halifax joined over 80 cities worldwide in the A15 movement in solidarity with Palestine. 19 activists were violently arrested by the Halifax Regional Police while peacefully demonstrating against Canada’s complicity and active role in genocide.

The call to disrupt the flow of capitalism has become a necessary one; no matter how much we protest and call our elected officials, there is yet to be a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The Canadian government has not taken any meaningful action to stop the sales and shipments of arms that fuel the genocide of Palestinians. Millions of Palestinians have reached critical hunger levels because food is blocked from entering the Gaza Strip. Journalists, health care and aid workers, children, and families are being targeted and murdered. The arms used in these attacks are sent from all over the world, including through the Halifax port by the Canadian government and Zim Shipping.

In Halifax, 19 anti-genocide activists were arrested and held by police for hours after the economic blockade. Each person was criminally charged with Obstruction of a “Peace” Officer and given three tickets with fines.

A15 Halifax is a community organization supporting the 19 activists who were arrested on April 15th, 2024 in Halifax. The funds will be distributed directly to the 19 people who were arrested according to their individual financial need to cover legal costs.
