My name is Suzie, and I am creating this page for my daughter Jodie and her young family, after a devastating series of events that have changed their lives forever.
Just before Xmas 2025 my daughter had been experiencing ongoing bullying at work. On a number of occasions, a colleague repeatedly hit her with large steel transport cages used to move stock. Shortly before Xmas she was trapped between two of these cages and collapsed in severe pain. A few days later on Xmas day she could barely move. her neck and back were in agony, and we spent most of the Xmas period in A&E. After further investigation she was referred to the spinal team in Exeter. They told her she needed urgent surgery because parts of her spine were crumbling and her spinal cord was at serious risk. at the beginning of February 2026 she went through many hours of complex spinal surgery. At first everything seemed to be going as expected, and she began the difficult recovery process. |She was eventually discharged home.
Shortly after returning home she suffered a blood clot that led to a stroke. She was rushed by emergency ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. During the fall connected to the stroke further damage was caused to her spinal cord. Surgeons performed further emergency surgery, but the outcome has been life changing.
Jodie has lost the use of her right leg has significant numbness on the right side of her body, and has limited use of her right arm and grip in her right hand. She is now at 36 facing life as a disabled young mother. She and her wife are parents to a beautiful one year old daughter, and this sudden change has placed enormous emotional and financial strain on their family. Because my daughter as the single income earner can no longer work there has been an immediate loss of income. The family live in private rented accommodation and the home will now need adaptations to make it accessible.
Although they have applied for benefits and support these processes take such a long time and sadly there is no guarantee of support. Right now they are relying on the kindness of family and friends just to cover the basic cost of living. I am starting this fundraiser to help them through this incredibly difficult period. Donations will help cover essential living costs, support for their young daughter and most importantly the adaptations needed to help my daughter live safely and independently in and out of her home.
Any donations no matter how small, would mean the world to our family. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would also help us enormously.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any kindness you are able to show.
