I never imagined I would be here again.

After my husband passed away suddenly, I truly believed that by now I would be back on my feet — working, providing, and rebuilding stability for my children. I planned for that future. Instead, I’ve found myself caught in delays and disputes completely outside of my control, and I’ve run out of time.

Social Security survivor benefits have been delayed longer than expected. Unemployment is currently being contested by my former employer over claims that are untrue and not the reason I was let go. I am actively job searching, interviewing, and doing everything I can — but in the meantime, bills don’t pause, rent doesn’t wait, and food still has to be put on the table.

Because of technical income thresholds, I do not qualify for state assistance — yet I also haven’t received the benefits I am entitled to. I’m stuck in a gap where I make “too much” to qualify for help, but not enough to survive without the support that is currently delayed.

What has been hardest is that the constant stress has taken over the space I need to grieve. I want to be present for my children. I want to heal. Right now, I’m just trying to breathe while keeping our lives from unraveling.

I set this fundraiser goal carefully and intentionally. The $10,000 goal represents approximately two months of essential living expenses — including rent, utilities, food, transportation, and basic necessities — while Social Security and unemployment issues are resolved and while I continue actively seeking employment. This is not a long-term solution, but a temporary bridge to stability during a moment when everything feels stalled.
