Help a Lifelong Foster Mom Get a Wheelchair Van for Her Little One

For over 20 years, this incredible woman has opened her heart and home to countless children in need. As a devoted foster mother Carolyn Leavitt has been a safe haven for kids going through some of the toughest moments of their lives. Not only has she fostered many children, she has also adopted several of them — giving them the love, stability, and family they deserve.

Right now, she needs our help.

She is currently caring for a sweet 6-year-old boy who uses a wheelchair. He is full of life, love, and curiosity — and like any child, he deserves the freedom to go out into the world, go to school, attend appointments, and just enjoy being a kid. But transporting him safely has become a major challenge.

The wheelchair-accessible van she previously used was recently totaled in an accident. Unfortunately, due to the cost of repairs and the age of the vehicle, it was deemed a total loss. Now, without a proper vehicle, everyday transportation has become nearly impossible — and purchasing a new wheelchair-accessible van is simply out of reach financially.

This woman has given so much to our community, to vulnerable children, and to everyone who knows her. She has never asked for anything in return. She is full of love, generosity, and grace — always putting others first.

Now it’s our turn to give back.

We’re raising funds to help her purchase a reliable, wheelchair-accessible van so that she can continue to care for this amazing little boy and provide him the mobility and access to the world that every child deserves.

we had a great start with some very generous donations. Carolyn has found an appropriate van which comes in just under our target of $75,000. The cost of the van is $74,750.

After an exciting start, the campaign has stalled a little. I have been told that my campaign is being spoofed by scammers. I’m going to have to look into my next move.

I have not changed the goal, but I have changed how the goal is shown. The goal is still $75,000 but it will be done in increments.. GoFundMe tells me that this may help get my campaign going again.

I had a conversation with a local former reporter who has offered to bring this to some former colleagues attention. They have not been able to promise me anything, but I am crossing my fingers and remaining hopeful!

Please help me by sharing this campaign, even if you are not able to donate. Anything to help this campaign is appreciated!

We are so overjoyed by everyone’s generosity! Thank you all so much! It’s for such a good cause!

There have been some questions about why the goal keeps changing and I just wanted to clarify. It’s because we wanted to try and see what would work. The goal was always 75,000 and it’s always been the goal for the campaign, but we were using the “automatic goal setting”. We found it to be helpful to get the campaign going, but we realized that it could be misleading if someone thought they were donating an amount to get the campaign to the goal. Therefore, I have decided to put it back to the setting that just shows the overall goal. I hope it doesn’t stall momentum.

Please continue to share, we really want to get the word out. If you know anyone at all in media or with a large following, please consider sending them this campaign.

Last of all, I want to remind everyone that this month is actually foster parent appreciation month. I reached out to some news organizations, hoping they might want to do a story on this because Carolyn would be the perfect person for such a story, but sadly, I haven’t heard back from anyone yet. Finger still crossed!

hey guys, been really excited about the success so far but I do feel like we’ve had a bit of a wall. I’m trying to keep positive and stay motivated. I really would appreciate people sharing it often and trying to get it out there.

Despite reaching out to CTV, global, CBC, I haven’t heard back from anyone. As foster parent appreciation month comes to a close I feel sad that they weren’t able to see the value in this story, but never mind, we will keep going!
