A Warming Place for ACK’s Homeless Community
Donation protected
A year ago a group of agency leaders and concerned community members came together to form the ACK Homelessness Team. The group’s main goal was to create a place for Nantucket’s homeless community to escape the island’s harsh winter conditions for some physical and mental relief. We are excited to announce the opening of The Warming Place at the American Legion Hall, 2 days a week from 9am-1pm. We will provide breakfast and lunch. Guests will have access to a phone and computer that we will provide. We will have camping cots so that people can rest out of the cold. We will offer newspapers, board games, and other means of entertainment. This will be a place that not only offers respite but also a sense of belonging.
We are in the final stages of planning and aim to open next month. In order to make The Warming Place a reality, however, we need the help of people like you. We cannot do our work without the contributions of the people and businesses in this community. We need both in-kind and financial donations to operate and are counting on the generosity the Nantucket Community has always shown to bring this place of respite to fruition.
