A walkway for a better future
Donation protected
“Walk the path where hope is alive with possibilities, where the past paints future projections. A space to thrive, flourish & bridge the divide”
"In 2021 the community surrounding the walkway, tired of the accumulation of heaps of trash and violent crime, gathered to clean this unsightly and unsafe passage leading to the local school. Group discussions with all age groups determined to transform the walkway into a demonstration of community pride and hope for the future (iThemba means hope in the local language). Walls were painted and decorated with upbeat slogans, trees were planted and the area became a place of community meetings, inter-religious dialogue and civic pride."
Please join us in creating a safer, vibrant, and sustainable community space throughout Gugulethu Township- Cape Town- South Africa. The iThemba Walkway project has already made a remarkable impact, improving safety and fostering a sense of communal responsibility. Help us expand this initiative and create more safe walkways, promoting social cohesion, economic development, and a better future for the community. Every small donation counts! Support us in making a difference, one walkway at a time.
Public walkways are some of the most neglected and dangerous public spaces in the city. We hope to make these walkways not only attractive and safe, but as a tourist destination where outsiders can visit our neighbourhood to witness the joy of a colourful and inclusive environment. Furthermore, such actions contribute to social cohesion and stimulate the economic development of our area through the support of local handicrafts and commodities prepared by our inhabitants.
