A van for Josh and Aj

I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my daughter Kelly Shoffner and my grandsons josh and Aj Beorn. The boys are affected by duchennes muscular dystrophy (dmd). DMD is a genetic disorder which causes muscle breakdown. It will cause them to stop walking and eventually attack their heart and lungs. Josh walks very little now and is transitioning into a wheelchair. Aj will also be using a wheelchair within a couple years. They are in desperate need of an accessible van. It’s hard to lift josh into their current van safely because he is 14 and getting heavy. These vans are extremely expensive ranging from $50,000 to 80,000 to accommodate them. Kelly really needs our help to purchase one. They travel to Columbus frequently to the MDA clinic for appointments so it’s a necessity to have transportation. She is also dealing with trying to do a complete bathroom remodel, turning two small bathrooms into one large enough to accommodate a wheelchair accessible shower. This will be a big project but totally necessary. She has so much on her plate having two boys with disabilities. The financial stress is overwhelming and she could really use the help. The day to day caregiving is so stressful I want to help ease the financial burden. Dmd is a terrible disease with no cure. These sweet boys deserve to live life to the fullest and not have so many obstacles to go about their day. Kelly is the best mom ever but it’s getting harder physically and financially.
