A TRIBUTE TO MARCIA BASSEY JONES
Donation protected
After years of battling after a failed transplant and dialysis every other day, Mark, aka Marcia Bassey Jones was admitted to hospital on Tuesday after collapsing outside his home.
Sadly his injuries from the fall were too much and he passed away very peacefully in the early hours Saturday 27th July.
He had his favourite music played and held our hands until he slipped away.
Mark was the very first drag queen in Cardiff about 40 years ago and started his career alongside Paul O Grady ( Lily Savage ) & Ceri Dupree.
He fought tirelessly for gay rights and supported AIDS charities and helped thousands of gay men and women feel they were special.
He was the finest drag queen and entertainer and worked extensively around the country in every major gay bar across the circuit.
In the end, Mark wanted no funeral and as his family and friends we have to respect that.
But we couldn't let this go without doing something special for him.
On Sunday August 11th at 8pm In Mary's Cardiff,
and 10pm in the Golden Cross Cardiff, we will be honouring Marcia's legacy with a tribute show to show our appreciation for everything that he did.
We are raising money so we can fund a portrait of him, which will live in the Golden Cross and a bench if we have raised enough.
Any money left over will go to kidney Wales to carry on their work.
Anything you can spare, a little or a lot would be very much appreciated.
Best wishes,
Gary, Allan, Paul and all of his family.
