A thank you to Gail - Makara Model Principal
Donation protected
Anyone who has had the privilege of being involved in Makara Model School will know the legend that is Gail.
As principal of the school for 15 years, she has put her heart and soul, blood, sweat and tears into making the school the best learning environment for the children of our community.
Gail's strong values; kindness, mindfulness and respect, have been the philosophy that underpinned the schools teaching and learning approach, alongside manaakitanga; caring for the wellbeing of others.
As you'll probably know, she spent 10 years battling bureaucracy and fundraising to get the school buildings and outside grounds looking inviting, charming and engaging for the students.
Gail has worked tirelessly to create a positive school that our children love and feel proud to belong to.
Not only has she been a wonderful and approachable principal, but she has also been a building project manager, chief trapper, eel feeder, assembly leader, mentor, Te Reo champion, and cheerleader for anyone who's ever needed a bit of extra time or support. And Gail has done all this while juggling her own family and personal life.
There's no doubt she will be missed very much. (Not to mention Rosie and Kowhai the dogs).
The students and the board are going to do something to acknowledge and thank Gail but I'm sure as parents, ex-parents, ex-students and a community we'd like to acknowledge her also.
We're hoping to raise funds to shout Gail a night away somewhere and maybe even treat her to a little pampering.
Anything you can contribute towards this gift will help, so thank you.
Given Covid-19, it's unlikely we'll be able to have a farewell gathering or presentation, but I'll arrange for a card so we can send personal farewell messages with the gift.
