A specialist Trike
Donation protected
Help needed from the community. I am a 6 years old boy, who was born premature at 29 weeks. This resulted in me being born with a condition called cerebral palsy, which affects my mobility. I depend on a wheelchair to get around. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends but I am limited in what I can access outside.
Due to the condition, Kai is unable to ride a trike or bike from the local toy shop like his brothers or other children in his class. Unfortunately they don't provide the correct posture support or keep him safe.
Kai is unable to play at the park like other children, the parks do not have the correct equipment for children with disabilities to use, therefore Kai can not play with his brothers. When going to the park Kai’s older brothers like to ride their bikes. When going out on family days out like this, it made us realise as parents that Kai is unable to join in with his brothers and experience the same as they do. Kai having a trike would mean he can get involved with his brothers and have an ordinary day out with his family.
His former 1;1 at school, got in touch with a specialist person, who builds and maintains trikes for disabled children to visit him at school and try one out. He loved it.. ‘I CAN RIDE A BIKE LIKE MY BROTHERS’ were his words, he was so excited and happy to have had the opportunity to try it. As you can see in the photo attached. (The video will be attached in the Facebook comments). This experience brought tears to many who had the opportunity to see his excited, happy little face. We would love Kai to have one of his own but due to the cost it isn't currently possible.
Having spent his young life using various specialist equipment;like a wheelchair and posture chair at school, having a trike would allow him to have an alternative solution to access outdoors with his family and use during playtimes, which he currently doesn't enjoy doing.
We would love to be able to raise some funds to allow this trike to be purchased as soon as possible. This would bring so much joy to a young boy's life, it will give him experiences we all take for granted and opportunities like his brothers. We know that times are challenging for everyone and giving is not always possible but every penny will help towards it.
The cost of the trike is 1827.00 and I hope we can get as close as possible with the support from family, friends and the wider community. If we are fortunate enough to raise the funds it would be used to cover the cost to purchase the trike.
