A Soft Landing for Birdie

Donation protected
Hi everyone - this is Chris, one of Birdie's (fairy) godmothers. On Saturday, May 17th, the unimaginable happened - our beloved Kazoo passed away, leaving behind her bright, beautiful toddler, Birdie. In the midst of our heartbreak, something incredible is happening: Kaz chose our dear friends Aaron Wickenden & Jenn Brandel and their 4-year-old daughter Juni to fulfill her last wish: to give Birdie the adventure-filled, loving life Kaz had hoped to be able to provide.

Birdie is fortunate to also have the ongoing love and support of her grandparents, Ken & Aviva. But they need time to process this enormous loss without worrying about the considerable logistics and costs involved in Birdie's transition.

Please join me in contributing whatever you can to help this new family constellation with:
  • Legal expenses
  • Childcare & family support services
  • Health insurance and medical care
  • Specialized food for her dietary needs
  • Clothing and toddler essentials
  • Easy family meals

Taking in a child, especially under such devastating circumstances, is a monumental act of love. But it comes with steep costs - many of them immediate. Our goal is to raise $25,000 to help set Birdie up for success and enable her to heal, grow, and thrive. Every penny raised on this site will be used for Birdie's transition and care.

Every donation helps. Every share matters.

Thank you for your kindness & generosity!

With deep gratitude,
Chris Shellen

About Chris: I'm a friend and godmother connected with Kaz & Birdie and Aaron, Jenn & Juni. Kaz and I have been close friends & collaborators for over 20 years. She's been an incredible godmother to my daughter Moo, and I was honored to be named one of Birdie's (fairy) godmothers when she was born. My husband and I are also close friends with Aaron & Jenn, and my first thought upon meeting them was, "They need to meet Kaz!" (Fortunately fate had the same idea!) Aaron is also an amazing godfather to Moo, and we've loved being Auntie & Uncle to their daughter Juni, who endured her own bout with cancer when she was 3 years old and is thankfully in remission. These are people who show up, so I hope we can all show up for them.
