A Seizure Alert Dog For Dexter
Donation protected
Peace and blessings everyone!
This initiative is to raise money to get a seizure alert dog for my sun Dexter. I found out I was pregnant with twins in 2009 and as excited as I was, I was just as nervous about becoming a mother to two boys. On March 11, 2009 my worst fears came true when I went into pre-term labor at 23 weeks gestation and had to deliver my boys via emergency c-section.
Upon their arrival into world, the doctors informed me that my suns would have major health concerns from mental retardation to possibly living life in a vegetable state. It all happened so fast but that didn't keep me from wanting to love and be a mother to my boys unfortunately, however, after battling kidney failure and other ailments Dexters brother passed away two weeks after they were born we gained a angel and we're just happy to still have one here with us.

After 4 months of traveling back and forth to the NICU Dexter was finally allowed to come home after having 4 major surgeries while he was there from brain surgery to heart surgery so as you can imagine, emotions ranged from uncertainty about how to take care of a fragile child to the excitement of finally having him w/ me. Dexter's doctors eventually diagnosed him with cerebral palsy and underlined autism and when he had his first seizure at the age of two was diagnosed with epilepsy as well. Dexter is a loving, extremely happy, charismatic little boy who LOVES to laugh and listen to music, he enjoys being outdoors and being pushed around in his chair...to know Dexter is to love him!

Dexter is now 11 years old and unfortunately the older Dex gets the more debilitating his seizures have become and even tho he only has about 5 times a year that could increase however he now suffers from multiple seizures at a time that last at least 30 mins. He is on medicine to try and manage his seizures w/ no luck really. The reason we need a seizure alert dog is because I am a single mom who cares for Dex on my own while this isnt the issue because I love my job as mom, Dexter's seizure normally happen before bed or upon waking up which is very tricky for me considering we are going to sleep and waking up around the same times. YES, i am up and down throughout the night checking on him lol I don't know what a full nights rest is, honestly but it's a very scary thing to wake up in the morning, go to check on him and see that he is in active seizure mode (not knowing how long it's been going on) or to put him to bed and think he's asleep but instead I go to check on him and he is laying in throw up from a seizure. It's difficult for me as a mother to continue living life like this, a seizure dog would not only take some stress off of me but could potentially save my baby's life. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this! My sun means the world to me and I just want to make life a little easier for the both of us. Spread some love today and if you are on the receiving end, remember to pass it on.
W/ love, sincerely.
