My name is Paula, and I live in Ecuador, a country literally in the middle of the world, but one that is currently in the midst of a profound crisis. You may have heard the news, but I want to share the human story behind the headlines—a story of resilience, injustice, and communities the world has overlooked.

Recently, a new government passed laws that blatantly disregard our nature and our most vulnerable indigenous communities. In a country where many survive on just $1.73 a day, these policies pushed people to the brink. This led to a national strike, where indigenous communities—the very pillars of our culture, and country—peacefully marched for their right to a dignified life. For more than 30 days, they manifested their desperation and their desire for dialogue, yet the government refused to agree to any sort of communication with them.

In the peaceful province of Imbabura, a place known for its ancestral wisdom, the response was brutal. The military attacked these unarmed protestors—men, women, and even children—who carried only their voices and their songs. The result was tragic: lives lost, families broken, and a nation left more divided than ever.

In the face of a system we cannot immediately change, my friends and I asked: what can we do now?

We found our answer in the ancient communities of San Pablo: the Kayambis and Karankis.

They are known as the "Guardians of the Seeds." For generations, they have worked the sacred land, preserving the ancestral knowledge that feeds and heals us. They are the living memory of Ecuador, crucial preservers of culture and knowledge. Yet, because they have steadfastly refused to abandon their homeland, they have become the "forgotten communities," living in extreme poverty with almost no outside support.

Our mission is simple: To show them they are not forgotten.

We are collecting donations to go door-to-door in these communities. We will listen to their stories, honor their elders, and provide what they need most right now: nutritious food, essential supplies, and, above all, tangible hope.

We want to plant a seed in their hearts, a seed that tells them: "The world sees you. The world cares."
