A Second Chance for Courtney and Her Sons

Help us get our sister home please. She was sentenced to five years in prison for a first offense. There is no way she should be serving all that time for what she did. The judge was very bias against her bc of her relationship. Yes they did bad things and she fully understands that now. The first time she got arrested and they tried to bring her to rehab she was still on drugs and wanting more, she told me in the jail she said if I get out right now I would go and find them. Then like three days later the lawyer had her being transferred, even though the cops heard her say that she was going to run. It is almost like they set her up. Then she ran and they found her and the judge and DA just took her life and through it away. Courtney is not a bad person she was sober for ten years and worked very hard and took care of her boys alone after getting out of an abusive relationship. Then she took care of our gramma, she told gramma everything she was like her best friend. Then our Grandma passed and Courtney never got a chance to say goodbye to her, she constantly struggles with that. Then our brothers house burned down and the first thing she did, she ran in the house bc of the three dogs. It was full flames and she crawled in; but the dogs were behind the fire she could hear them crying and after that she blamed herself completely. Yes we know she should not have turned to drugs, but at that point she could not get out of her own way and she didn’t feel like she could get herself out of it again. She turned to the only thing that would shut her mind off. She relapsed for a year. She signed her two boys over to mom bc she knew she couldn’t take care of them properly; that killed her inside. She was starting to go and see them more before she got arrested, but then the court dates happened and all the bad stuff started happening that I mentioned before.

I talk to Courtney every single day, she was not my sister when she first went to jail, but she is who she used to be now. She wants to be home and with her boys she wants to help Mom and Dad out. Courtney has always been a giver, devoted, and selfless person; she just got lost for a little bit. She wants to go to rehab and get help even though she is clean now she wants to stay clean. She has underlying health issues. Her lung capacity is not where it is supposed to be and it is causing her to get club fingers. She is not able to get the medical help she needs inside. There are so many reasons Courtney should not be in prison and let alone that far away from home where her sons are.

I have a lawyer appealing her case. He has already gotten it written up and he said he could have her out by Fall most likely because her sentencing was way too extreme. Our Aunt has helped me with the first payment but in order to get any farther and him to put the papers to the court he requires 5000.00 more. He said he would take 2500.00 now and the rest in 90 days. I am trying to get this because my time window is almost up for when he will not keep the case open. I tried getting a 5000 dollar loan but they denied I tried 2500; they denied that too. I would pay it all myself if I could. Courtney said she will pay everything back to everyone bc she plans on getting a job as soon as she gets out.

I understand if you feel strongly about her being there and don’t want to help but five years is way too long for this first offense. I just want my sister home and with her boys where she belongs. She deserves this chance and I am certain she would do better out here than locked up. Please help me get her out. Any help at all would be so appreciated.
