A Science Baby for Amber and Barrett!

Infertility sucks, and no one talks about it out loud. Not only is it mentally and emotionally draining, it's a financial hardship that usually involves taking major financial risks. Even if you've prepared for years to provide for a child, an infertility diagnosis changes your whole game plan. Most insurance plans don't cover any of the the solutions to the problem, and those solutions can be tens of thousands of dollars.
15% of couples struggle with infertility, and Barrett and I were unlucky enough to get this diagnosis in early 2021, a few years into our otherwise fun and happy marriage filled with a lot of love and doggy kisses. After frequent long and emotional discussions, diagnostic testing, a couple of surgeries, and a final recommendation from our reproductive endocrinologist to proceed with IVF, we've decided to take steps to make that happen, even if the journey is painful and difficult and we have nothing to show for it in the end. Trying to be parents together is worth it, and we're so excited about the potential of that adventure.
We thought long and hard about this and considered alternative routes to parenthood. Adoption. Fostering. Continuing to build a dog army with Poco the pug as commanding officer. But at the end of the day, we aren't getting any younger and IVF has the highest probability of success for us. We are so ready to raise a baby as a team, and truly hope we get the opportunity to do so one day.
Crowdfunding IVF was a weird and difficult decision to make, as infertility is very personal and having children is a choice -- not a necessity -- but we definitely appreciate any support. A few people had reached out to me about taking this route, and I figured it doesn't harm anyone or anything in the end.
(We also completely understand your eyerolls and barf noises too. It's a lot.)
As a thank you for any contribution, I will definitely make Barrett draw you a picture of one of your pets. If you don't have a pet, I'll make him draw you a picture of one of OUR pets -- your choice. It'll make the perfect accessory to any fridge.
We love you. Thank you.
